...I was pondering a question I had asked myself. To me the answer was fairly easy, but the pondering came in when I thought about what other people's answer would be.
The question: If you had to live with a roommate in a regular two bedroom house who would you rather live with, a cop by profession or a weed/XTC/prescription drug dealer? For sake of argument let's say the rent isn't a factor.
(no the cop isn't a hot stripper cop and no you don't get free drugs from the drug dealer)
Please state your answer and reasons why.

The cop? he'd be like a wet blanket all the time.
"You can't have sex with what looks like a minor you got drunk"
Who would want that?
1) I don't do drugs, and I think they're a waste of money and life
2) I don't feel like going to jail
3) A cop has a steady job, and is much more likely to be a highly responsible individual, meaning I probably won't have to put up with Cheeto wrappers everywhere
4) Weed fuckin smells like cigarettes and ass
5) I don't allow the smoking of anything (legal or not) in my house
6) I won't have smelly losers coming over at all hours of the night to buy a dime bag,
7) Drug dealers are degenerates
I could go on, but I don't want to.
P.S. I don't want to hear about people that smoke drugs that are also highly productive members of society. There are also murders and rapists that are (or were) highly productive members of society. That means nothing in this thread.
After more thought, the line between both situations are blurring, it's harder to say.
From personal experience, I have wound up living with people that ended up becoming drug dealers, or, in the last case, a girl whose boyfriend came to live in my place and he just happened to be a drug dealer. I recently got out of that situation. I'm a carefree guy, and a pretty damn good roommate (I tolerate a lot and if I don't tolerate I let you know, no harm no foul) so I don't mind or judge what people do on their spare time or even the way people make a living, but there's something about somebody that sits at home all day and does nothing and has people come in and out of the house while I'm at work that irks me. It's not even the roommates I wouldn't trust, it'd be the "clients".
The downside of the police officer though is that he/she would, as Farhad said, be a stick in the mud. Nobody wants to come over to a cops house, nobody wants to party with a cop. There's a whole library of stories I wouldn't be able to share with him or her, and there's eggshells I'd have to be constantly stepping on just trying to live my normal life...'cause let's face it, I like to let loose sometimes, and sometimes lettin' loose requires some fun external to the parameters of the law.
I've had to face this problem (in not such an extreme circumstance recently) where it was, do I live with the "party animal" roommates, or the conservative can't-do-anything roommates. Hopefully I've found some just as balanced as I am. There's gotta be some awesome roommate stories out here on the sift...anybody?
Seriously though, There's not much I can think of that people do at parties that's illegal. Drugs, really, is the only thing. And yes, what you said about some guy sitting around the house all day with his random "clients" is also another big one.
And you say who would want to live with a cop? Me, since I plan on being one by the year's end.
@Farhad: No one ever said the cop was a strict uptight bastard.
And I believe it's "wares".
Most drug drug dealers are fucking morons, and eventually get busted by their own so-called friends.
and MG, Pot does NOT smell like ass, but good grass, smells like skunk-ass....Oh and congrats on the career move, I would hope that if I ever come to RI(some end of the world scenario)I'll get to ride in yer patrol car, or at least get a free-ride on some bullshit possession charge...
Anyway, do you really want to live with someone who has no respect for the law or the health of others. Do you really think a drug dealer is a reliable or trustworthy friend?
In Canada they are mellow types usually trying to perfect the perfect weed concoction.
While in Columbia they might kidnap your sister to use as a cocaine mule.
Seriously, if I had to chose one or the other, it would be the dope dealer. But then I would try to move out as soon as possible, because I wouldn't want to go to jail because of him.
I'll stick to having midget transexual prostitutes as my roommates, thank you very much.
Most definitely a police officer. For reasons beyond the obvious, there's
1) I don't do drugs, and I think they're a waste of money and life
2) I don't feel like going to jail
3) A cop has a steady job, and is much more likely to be a highly responsible individual, meaning I probably won't have to put up with Cheeto wrappers everywhere

Someone is Boooorrrring.
Edit:Oops, wasn't trying to derail the thread here. I'm going to have to opt out(like the tree-hugging pacifist I am) for the best of both worlds and have a cop who enjoys a toke off the pipe-weed every now and then.
